Do-it - Volunteering made easy

Need Volunteers

Why Love Volunteers

We understand how important volunteers are to you; they can add real value to an organisation. Volunteers can help you to achieve your aims and objectives and deliver your business objectives

Many groups – especially smaller, community-based ones – depend on volunteers to run their services and activities. This alone is a major benefit and the wise organisation will look after and support its volunteers in return for their commitment and involvement. However, there are considerable benefits to the organisation in addition to having an unpaid workforce.

Volunteers can provide:

  • A different perspective – and a reality check – on the business of the organisation;
  • Opportunities to attract and include a cross-section of the community across the age, gender and ethnicity spectrums – promoting community cohesion;
  • Energy and enthusiasm;
  • Community connections – which may attract further support including funding;
  • Opportunities for expansion or trying out new ideas;
  • Routes to skills development leading to job creation for paid employees.

It’s always worth exploring how volunteers can broaden the horizons of an organisation for its own sake as well as theirs.

How can we help you

The Volunteer Centre can help you to: Develop your Opportunities

If you have ideas of new roles for individual volunteers, or teams of volunteers, we can help you develop role and put together the descriptions. A good role description can make all the difference, it allows volunteers to fully consider if the role is for them and if they have the skills and experience that you are looking for. It is a competitive market place for volunteers and you need to ensure that your opportunity sounds appealing and stands out!

Advertising your opportunities

The first step is to register your organisation with us. It’s easy simply fill in the Organisation registration form you can then register all the individual voluntary opportunities you have by filling in an opportunity registration form for each role. If your opportunity covers more than 1 district of Suffolk we can notify the relevant Volunteer Centers so you don't have to fill out the forms more than once.

Organisation Registration Form

Voluntary Opportunity Registration Form. - We need 1 form for each different opportunity.

We can upload all local voluntary opportunities onto the National Volunteering database on do-it.org for FREE! Increasingly people are searching for volunteering information on the internet and often registering online too. All opportunities are identified by post code.

do-itIdentify Potential Volunteers

We have a large database of registered volunteers. We proactively contact volunteers that we think may be interested in the role that you have available. We can also utilise our vast network of contacts to help you to fulfill your volunteer needs.

Volunteer Management

Volunteers need to feel recognised, valued and supported by the organisation that they volunteer for. We carry out regular impact assessments which give us positive and negative feedback from our volunteers on their volunteering experiences. Some of the negative feedback includes:

  • I have had no contact — nobody rang me back
  • I was not made to feel welcome
  • I had nothing to do when I got there
  • I was not sure what was expected of me
  • I did not understand the task and was not given any training
  • I was unsure of the expense policy

We have developed a Volunteer Management basic Toolkit for you to use, it provides useful information, best practice guides and simple easy to use templates.

You can download the whole kit or cherry pick the documents that you need.
